As part of this project, Uzaje and its partners have developed an innovative system of reusable food trays, sealed directly in stores using a cutting-edge protective atmosphere sealing technology.

The process is simple:
🛒 The customer purchases ready-to-eat meals packaged and sealed in reusable trays, directly from the catering section of the supermarket,
💶 A 1€ deposit is added to the purchase price of each unit.

🏠 Meals can be enjoyed at home or in the supermarket’s snacking area,

🔁 Once finished, the empty trays are returned to a collector machine in-store, where customers receive a 1€ voucher.
🚚 the tray is washed according to the highest food safety standards as well as visually and bacteriologically tested,
🔄 and the tray is reused!

 

The initiative has been officially inaugurated in Hyper U La Chapelle sur Erdre (France), marking an important milestone for reuse in the food retail sector on 7th October 2025 and is operational since September 2025.
